Kit and Susette's Travel Bucket List

Susette and I were talking this week and decided to list the top 5 places we'd like to visit. She tried to sneek "Europe" as one destination. So here is what we came up with as I understood it. These are in no particular order

London
Paris
Australia
Germany / Switzerland
Italy

More information to follow. I wanted to put these somewhere we both can access and collaborate on this project

Low Pressure Shower Heads

I have an issue with the low pressure shower heads. Do they really save water and energy?

This past Thanksgiving, we went to Yosemite and stayed at the Apple Tree Inn (great place, highly recommend the place). Like most hotels in California, they had the low pressure shower heads. I understand the thought of conserving water and I am behind trying to save our natural resources. I do question if they really accomplish what they are supposed to do.

Point 1: I found that I took longer showers. The low pressure shower head really does a terrible job of getting water on the body. It takes longer to get the hair wet enough to prepare to put in the shampoo. It takes longer to get the shampoo out. People who know me know I, too suffer from male-pattern-baldness. I can only imagine how long it takes to wash the the hair when you HAVE hair. Rinsing the soap off the body takes just as long and it never feels like you get it all. So, doest it really save water, these low pressure shower heads?

Point 2: I found that I set the temperature of the water higher. These shower heads send out a fine mist. The smaller the droplet, the quicker the heat transfers out of the water and into the air. Half the body is out of the water because there is not enough water flowing to run over the shoulders and down the other side of the body. Therefore, that side of the body gets cold. Thus, the need for the higher temperature setting.

The other side of the coin is staying longer in the shower with regular flow shower heads. I am happy to say that we have a shower head in our house that flows very well. But, if I stay in too long, then I am guilty of wasting water. It does feel great and my wife does takes the long shower, but I can't complain. That is her fortress of solitude. She does deserve to take that indulgence because she does a great job taking care of the house and family.

I guess it all comes down the persons attitude in the shower. All I know is that when I am on vacation I want to have a good shower experience and the low pressure shower head is not the answer. (just not the Commando 450)

Yosemite Trip 2008

We went to Yosemite again this year. We went the Sunday to Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I don't know if this is going to be a tradition for us or just an enjoyable way to spend the time at the first of the week during our Thanksgiving trip to California.

The first day was beautiful and sunny. We stumble upon the San Jose Family Camp. The summer before Susette's senior year in high school, she was a camp councilor there. She was excited to see it so we stopped and took a look around. She wanted to explore more, but I was afraid that we might get busted for trespassing or at least yelled at. (it never happened - I am just paranoid)

We then stopped at Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. This is the main water supply for San Francisco. Amazing to think how far the water needs to travel before San Franciscans shower in it. Nice place and kind of sad as it was much like a smaller version of Yosemite Valley until they built the dam. Go here to see the before and after pictures.

Susette has a Blog

My wife, Susette, has a blog. She started it yesterday and I must say, I am excited. Her blog is http://damrondirt-susette.blogspot.com/

Blogging is kind of interesting to me in that I think of all this good stuff to write, but then when I sit down and type, nothing comes.

15th Anniversary

Susette and I went to Chicago and Niagara Falls in May for our 15th anniversay. It was a blast; a whole week alone. Thanks to my parents for coming out to wathc the kids for us. Here we are at the above the train station. It was a little chilly, but not too bad. We saw "Wicked" and did the tourist thing. At first, I was wondering what there would be to do there, but found that we didn't spend enough time in Chicago
